Join us on September 10, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Neighbours Day, the UNA’s signature event that aims to bring neighbours together for a day of festivities, food and connection. Join the celebrations at Wesbrook Community Centre’s outdoor space and enjoy dance, music and magic performances, snacks, face painting, bouncy castles…and more! Bring cash for snack purchases and a picnic blanket to enjoy outdoor performances.

    These Main Stage performances are designed to ensure all-ages entertainment throughout the day.  Performances are listed in order of show times.

    Little h Entertainment DJ & Photo Booth is a fully interactive DJ company. Tom Berger, owner and operator of Little h Entertainment, has over 30 years of experience in various areas of the music industry. He has worked for a major record label where his responsibilities included promoting artists, organizing record release parties and other music related events. Tom has also worked in radio and has DJ’d locally and in clubs around the world. | Various times between 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

    Shao Lin Hung Gar Kung Fu Association. The Shao Lin Hung Gar lion dance team is based in Vancouver and is well known to the community. The team has participated in the Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown for over 10 years in addition to many charitable events. The award-winning team has competed in lion dance competitions, received special awards and performed demonstration in many big events and martial arts tournaments across Canada. | 11 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

    Karen Flamenco is an acclaimed collaborative and established flamenco dance company – a leader in the creation, production and education of flamenco dance in Vancouver. This innovative dance company combines the technical brilliance of flamenco with dramatic flair. The spirited dancing, colourful costumes and heart-stirring live music epitomize the passion and excitement of flamenco, capturing the imagination of dance lovers of all ages. | 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

    Paul Latta Dancers & Co. Since 1973, Paul has produced and performed more than 250 shows a year in over 7 countries worldwide inc. Live shows, Tours, Royal Caribbean / Celebrity cruises, Disney films, Movies, T.V., Commercials, Festivals, Competitions, and a royal performance for the Queen Pariki of Rarotonga Cook Islands; in addition, several world tours to Europe, Japan, Las Vegas, Mexico, Rarotonga, Tahiti & Honolulu. His company offers over 15 different Professional & Non Professional Polynesian, Middle Eastern & Variety production shows which are highly acclaimed locally, nationally & world-wide. | 12 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    Vancouver Okinawa Taiko has been performing in numerous festivals, charity functions and anniversary events for just about two decades. The group’s aim is to promote and preserve Okinawan style drum-dancing Eisa, and to share Okinawan cultural heritage. The membership consists of a mixed generation to reflect the presentation of grassroots folk art. We hope to deliver the Okinawan spirit through the beat of our drums and harmonies of our dance. | 12:30 p.m. – 12:50 p.m.

    Merlin the Magician is a 500-year-old Wizard, but his magic doesn’t always work the way it’s supposed to. His alter-ego (Bruce Hunt), is a Vancouver comedy magician who has been on the local entertainment scene for several decades. The Merlin character has kept him very busy performing at many family and community events.| 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

    Ramen Fog has been playing together for only seven months, but the way they all clicked makes it feel like they’ve been a band for years. After connecting through their shared passion for music, the members of Ramen Fog have played shows all over the city and even in Squamish and Salmon Arm. They don’t really have an exact definition for their music genre but they’ve started to develop a sound and are so excited to be sharing with you all on Neighbours Day! | 2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

    Zipcar Hotdog is a 5-piece, jazz-inspired indie band that has its roots in the UBC Blank Vinyl Project Club (BVP). With two singers/songwriters we enjoy creating different, but complementary sounding songs that we can play for our friends and community. | 3 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.

  • Fun Zone

    We’ve got activities for kids, youth, adults, seniors and families.

    • Inflatable Bouncy Castle & Obstacle Course. Two inflatable bouncy castles, with a slide, and a 45-foot long obstacle course for kids to enjoy. | 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    • Bubble Soccer. Join for a fun game of bubble soccer where participants will be inside giant inflatable balls! Games will be led by BC Bubble Ball and everyone 9+ is welcome to participate. | 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. & 3 p.m – 4 p.m.
    • Family Yoga. Join one of the UNA’s new yoga instructors for a fun, family-friendly yoga session in the morning. Stretch and zen your way into Neighbours Day with a free yoga class! | 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.
    • Spin Class. The UNA has spin classes! We can’t wait to get you on a bike for a workout on the field during Neighbours Day. Come meet the instructors and test out the bikes for a quick 15-minute taste of spin before the events get started! | 1:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. & 2:45 p.m. – 3 p.m.
    • Bocce for seniors. Take part in a fun, traditional game of bocce on the UNA Community Field. | 11:15 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    • Music Together. This is an early childhood music and movement class for children from birth through age eight—and the grownups who love them! Meet the teacher, check out some musical instruments, and join in for a song or two. | 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. & 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    • Photo Booth. Commemorate the day by taking a photo with your friends at the Little h Entertainment photo booth! | 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.
    • Field Games. Practice your cornhole, spikeball, giant Jenga and more field games on the UNA Field. | 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Community Zone

    Our community partners are looking forward to meeting you and your family at the Neighbours Day Community Zone! Booths will include program instructors, community resources, and sustainability partners.

  • Re-Creation: A Community Art Project

    Be sure to join us for the launch of Re-Creation: A Community Art Project, which is a community-led public art piece to raise environmental awareness and foster solidarity. Drop by the Wesbrook Community Centre’s art room to meet Yasaman Moussavi, who is a professional artist, art instructor at the UNA, resident living in the community and creative director of this collaborative endeavour. Loren Ipsum.

  • Urban Rec Volleyball Tournament

    The co-ed 4’s beach volleyball tournament will take place at the Wesbrook Beach Volleyball Courts between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Be sure to drop by to watch as participants (19+) of all-skills levels – from recreation to intermediate plus – take to the courts.

    Registration for the tournament is sold out.

The celebration will take place in the public space next to the Wesbrook Community Centre. There are many ways to get here! We encourage everyone to take the most sustainable option available to them to help reduce the climate impact of our event.
