    Starting September 2022, the UNA introduced fitness programs that include spin classes, yoga classes, Osteofit, bootcamp style HIIT classes, personal training and various other options. Regardless of your preferred fitness style, we have something for everyone.

  • Personal Training

    Personal training is up and running at the UNA. Our personal trainers will work with you to meet your goals, get you fit, and guide you through your health and wellness journey.

  • Facilities

    The UNA has fitness facilities located in the Wesbrook Community Centre and the Old Barn Community Centre. At both facilities, you will find cardio equipment, free weights, a variety of machines, stretching space, kettlebells, and more! Each facility is designed to meet the needs of many of our diverse community members, regardless of age or fitness level.

Old Barn Fitness Centre Now Open

Renovation on the Old Barn Fitness Centre is now complete and open for public use. Check out the upgraded OBCC Fitness Centre with new equipment, a new room layout and new fitness programs.

Wesbrook Fitness Centre

Wesbrook Fitness Centre Passes
Fitness Passes can be purchased through your UNA Account or at one of our community centres.

  • 10-visits: $60
  • 1 month: $60
  • 3 month: $150

Machines
Squat rack, treadmills, bench press, chest press, leg press, assisted chin-up, step machine, ellipticals, recumbent bike, lat pull down machine, pec/rear delt fly machine, seated row machine, cable machine, stationary bikes.

Weights
Dumbbells with weights from 3lb – 85 lb, kettle bells from 8 kg – 32 kg, medicine balls from 4 lb – 15 lb.

Equipment
Bosu balls, yoga balls, exercise mats, plyo box, skipping ropes, resistance bands, balance boards, wooden dowel, ab roller, 3 benches, foam rollers, stackable aerobic steps.

Program Guide

Personal Training

Our certified personal trainers are here to support your fitness goals. We always start with an assessment session to record and determine your current fitness level, questions, and goals. From there, you can mix and match personal training sessions based on what you need.

Note – The Intro Package for Personal Training is a one-time 90-minute session.

  • Strength Training

    Strength training is important for longevity, toning & sculpting, and increasing overall fitness ability. Strength training is useful for all ages and all genders, especially for women 50+ and anyone looking to increase metabolic health and muscular definition. If you are wanting to find out more about how strength training might benefit you, our personal trainers are here to help.

  • Flexibility and Mobility Training

    Flexibility and mobility are a pivotal part of fitness and should be incorporated into every workout. Increasing mobility and flexibility will help to increase quality of life in old age, and to reduce day-to-day pain while also increasing vascular health. UNA Personal Trainers are excited to help you maximize your flexibility and mobility.

  • Weight Goal Training

    Our personal trainers will cover important nutrition fundamentals, timelines and exercises based on your body composition. We understand that weight loss and weight gain journey’s can be difficult, so our personal trainers will support physical progress while staying tuned to your mental and emotional wellbeing.

  • Nancy Li – UNA Fitness Supervisor
    Nancy is responsible for UNA fitness facilities, programs and services.
  • Hanif Teja – UNA Personal Trainer
    Hanif, our lead personal trainer, has more than 10 years of experience as a fitness coach and is certified by the Canadian Fitness Professionals. His approach to fitness focuses on promoting optimum health and wellness through a well-balanced lifestyle. Hanif employs a functional and tactical fitness methodology to assist clients in achieving their health and fitness objectives. To schedule a consultation session, contact him at hanif.teja@myuna.ca.
  • Abby Zhang – UNA Personal Trainer
    Abby is a Certified BCRPA Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, and Group Fitness Instructor. She strives to help female clients build strength and flexibility through practical and safe workouts. Abby used to work a fast-paced 9-5 job, but then a car accident changed her life.   • Rio Leung – UNA Personal Trainer
    Rio is an ACE-certified personal trainer with a degree in Kinesiology. He is currently studying at UBC to become a physiotherapist. His focused approach on building strength, enhancing body composition, and developing healthy movement patterns is perfect for clients of all age groups & skill levels.   • Benjamin Bowyer – UNA Personal Trainer
    Ben is an ACE-certified personal trainer, currently studying with the School of Kinesiology at UBC. He provides an evidence-informed approach to building strength and muscle, with an emphasis on developing healthy movement patterns relevant for activities of daily living. He has additional experience working with clients with spinal cord injury.   • Angie Datt – UNA Personal & Weight Trainer
    Angie is a certified BCRPA weight trainer & certified personal trainer, with a decade of experience as a certified yoga teacher as well as a more recent Osteofit Instructor certification. She has been active in sports and fitness since childhood and derives pleasure from inspiring people to be active and healthy. Angie assists her clients in acclimatizing to the gym environment and devises functional workout regimes that enhance strength and flexibility.   • Joani Su – UNA Personal Trainer
    Joani is an ACE-certified personal trainer and a current UBC Kinesiology student with an aspiration to become a physiotherapist. Her approach to fitness focuses on functional training by working closely with clients to ensure proper form to maximize overall strength. Joani is passionate about motivating others to believe in their own movement abilities in order to live life to the fullest and is fluent in English and Mandarin.   • Sean McQuade – UNA Personal Trainer
    Sean is an ACE-certified personal trainer currently studying Kinesiology at UBC in hopes to become a physiotherapist. His approach emphasizes viewing the body as a connected system and building full body strength to ensure the proper development of functional movements patterns. Further, he has aspirations in powerlifting and bodybuilding, giving him in depth knowledge regarding the development of muscular hypertrophy and muscular strength. Sean is dedicated to take clients from wherever they are currently, all the way to reaching their fitness goals, while giving guidance and motivation every step of the way.   • Evan Wu – UNA Personal Trainer
    Evan is a CFES-certified personal trainer with four years of dedicated training experience. He specializes in strength and hypertrophy training as well as weight loss, and has successfully coached clients across various age groups. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from UBC and is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
