Come celebrate Earth Day with the UNA from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.! Learn different ways we can care about the Earth and decrease our impact while connecting with your community.

Drop by Old Barn Community Centre and visit UBC’s Bike Kitchen as they teach you the basics of bike maintenance and repair. Plus, you will have the opportunity to test out the UNA’s community bike repair stations!


10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Drop In Bike Repair with the Bike Kitchen 

Celebrate Earth Day by tuning up your ride! Drop by Old Barn Community Centre and visit UBC’s Bike Kitchen as they teach you the basics of bike maintenance and repair. Plus, test out the UNA’s community bike repair stations!

11 a.m. – 1.p.m | DIY Beeswax Wraps Workshop

In this Earth Day workshop with Rashmi GC from Village Vancouver, we’ll talk about how to reduce food waste, package-free grocery shopping, proper segregation of kitchen waste, recycling and composting. Workshop participants will make beeswax wraps to take home with them. We’ll have a community seed library present – pick up some free seeds for your garden, swap or donate seeds.

12 – 1 p.m. | Children’s Garden exploration workshop

Join Jane at the Children’s Garden and learn how your garden grows. This 1-hour workshop will give kids a hands on opportunity to learn all about gardening, including:

  • A Children’s Garden orientation
  • Till the soil and plant seeds
  • Get up close and observe the creatures that call the garden home
  • Take some seeds home to plant!

Kids aged 2-12 are welcome to join (plus a parent). This workshop will be outside, weather permitting, so please wear clothes that can get dirty!

10 – 11 a.m. | Balcony Herb Planting | $2

Interested in sustainable food but don’t know where to start? In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of growing your own balcony herbs! Discover yummy recipes, learn fun facts, and win prizes. All supplies provided for your herb garden kit.

11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Plant Scavenger Hunt

Come learn about local plant biodiversity and contribute to citizen science. We’ll be heading outside for a plant scavenger hunt using the online apps PlantNet or iNatualist to ID local species and learn more about protecting our plant biodiversity while supporting the pollinators that depend on it.
